So, it seems like a good time to take some time to do some altering to a theme close to my heart, Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’.

Harlequin Sculpt

Hey,

So then, it was snowing this last week, and I had some time off work unexpectedly.  I’ve been working on Malice so hard recently, that I really needed a break.  As such, I pulled out my supersculpey, a putty I’ve never used before, and set to work on a 120mm eldar harlequin.  I always start a project with the aim of improving my practice somewhat, and as such I wanted to practice pushing large quantities of putty, using polymer clay, and getting some really awesome painting opportunities in to boot.

As for the polymer clay, I find it easy to use, not particularly forgiving, and prone to tear, but very smooth when you get it right – I love it! I’ll be using it more over the coming year.  I’ll also bring it in feburary, because I think it’ll be great for sculpting tutorials.

Back down to business though – I hope you like what you see so far, she’s been an absolute pleasure to date.  I need some advice though – sword foward or reversed, left or right hand?  Harlequin’s kiss on one wrist?  What sort of thing should she be hanging/jumping off?  ruined rose window, or is that too obvious?  btw, I’m sculpting this to really push my painting to the max, so the mask is blank, ready for me to paint the face underneath onto the surface.  Scary.

Thanks so much for looking, as always, any feedback most appreciated!

James
